More than 380 career advocates, government officials, academe, employers and industry heads attended the 3rd National Career Advocacy Congress (NCAC) last 26-27 May 2016 at the Midas Hotel, Pasay City.
The Congress is slated towards the outspread dissemination of timely and relevant Labor Market Information (LMI), as well as strengthened advocacy on good career guidance, that students, parents, and even industries and training institutions can use to address their respective labor needs. As such, several panel discussions and open forum circling on labor market trends, special topics on guidance counseling, and employability and career success were discussed by speakers from the Department of Education (DepEd), Public Employment Service Office Managers Association of the Philippines (PESOMAP), Institute for Integrality, World Bank, and Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization-Regional Centre for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO-INNOTECH).This was complemented by the LMI Corner, a display area showcasing publications of the DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment such as JobStart, PhilJobNet and other LMI publication/researches as well as IEC materials from SFI, TESDA and Edukasyon.ph.
During the congress, the Career Guidance Advocacy Program (CGAP)-Working Group members represented by Undersecretary Nicon Fameronag (DOLE), Director Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr. (CHED-Office of Planning, Research and Knowledge Management), Assistant Executive Director Ms. Felicidad B. Zurbabo (TESDA- National Institute for Technical Education and Skills Development), Assistant Secretary Elvin Ivan Y. Uy (DepEd), Supervising Science Research Specialist Ms. Ma. Daisy A. Demoni (SEI-DOST), Dr. Luzviminda Guzman (PRC) and Dr. Bonifacio Mercado Federation of Career Guidance Advocates Network of the Philippines (FCGANP) reported the career guidance related achievements in their respective agencies over the past years. This is a review of Working Group’s commitment to the CGAP masterplan, Career Guidance Advocacy Plan 2013-2016.
With 2016 nearing its end, the CGAP-Working Group has drafted a new and encompassing plan for the next medium term, 2017-2022. Industry leaders, government agencies, and career guidance practitioners were given the chance to actively participate in the discussion, and their inputs provided the grassroots’ perspective to the new CGAP masterplan.
The 3rd NCAC was spearheaded by DOLE, in coordination with DepEd, DOST, CHED, PRC, TESDA and its new partner the FCGANP, Inc. The BLE served as the secretariat to the Congress.
