BLE Expands the Coverage of Institutionalized PESOs
With its continuing desire to provide effective employment facilitation services to public in the local level, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), paved way in the institutionalization of more Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in the country.
For the 1st quarter of 2014, 22 more PESOs were institutionalized nationwide. The number of institutionalized PESOs has now reached 319.
Among these 22 more institutionalized PESOs are: San Juan City; Abra Province; Pasil, Kalinga; Gumaca, Quezon; Bay, Laguna; Majayjay, Laguna; Magallanes, Cavite; Buruanga, Aklan; Guimaras Province; Boron, Northern Samar; Hilongos, Leyte; Arteche, Eastern Samar; Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte; Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur; Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur; Tangkal, Lanao del Norte; El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental; Manticao, Misamis Oriental; Hagonoy Davao del Sur; Don Marcelino, Davao del Sur; and Gov Generoso, Davao Oriental.
An institutionalized PESO has a regular office with plantilla position(s) and annual budget either through an ordinance or a resolution enacted by the local Sanggunian Bayan.
“The institutionalization of PESOs is a clear indication of support from the local chief executive recognizing the need for a working and effective employment facilitation machinery in aiding unemployment and jobs-skills mismatch”, Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said.
The PESO is a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility or entity established or accredited pursuant to Republic Act No. 8759 otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999. Services and programs provided by the PESO include job fairs, Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), career guidance and employment coaching, and employment facilitation through job matching among others.
“We will continue to institutionalize more PESOs to extend our employment services to more Filipinos who require assistance on matters of employment”, Director Tutay said.
