A Cashier receives and disburses money in establishments other than financial institutions. The job usually involves use of electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Cashiers are also often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and in validating checks.

Basic Educational Requirement

A high school diploma or any four-year course, or one to three months related experience and/or training. Any equivalent combination of education and experience is an advantage.

Salary/Compensation

At entry level, a cashier takes home a base pay of P9,000 - P12,000 per month and may even go up to P15,000 per month for those highly-trained and experienced.

Prospects for Career Advancement

Prospects for advancement include promotion to a full-time position for those working part-time, head cashier or cash office clerk, or another position with more responsibility.

There are numerous opportunities for cashiers can be found in any of the following establishments: supermarkets, convenience stores, movie theaters, ticket agencies, casinos, and banks among others.

Cost of Education *

There is no specific educational requirement to be a cashier. However, employers often prefer applicants with a bachelors degree particularly if one is applying in the banking and finance sector. A four year course would normally range from P10,000 - P15,000 per semester in private universities and about P5,000 to P7,000 in public institutions.
